Oscar Fashion 2011

Natalie Portman in Rodarte (Photo: StyleList)
Oscar winning actress, Natalie Portman looked radiant in this purple Rodarte gown on the red carpet just hours before she took home her award for best actress.  Being pregnant can present its challenges but Portman picked the perfect dress as a mom-to-be.  I was recently on a radio show where I predicted she would be the best dressed.  Although she looked spectacular with her matching tassel earrings, I actually thought Halle Berry and Sandra Bullock came away with the best-dressed.  It's a tie for me.

Sandra Bullock looked stunning in this red Vera Wang strapless dress.  The corseted bodice and big bow detail in the back was beautiful.  With her hair pulled back and red lips she was flawless.  I thought she looked even better than last year.

Halle Berry in Marchesa (Photo: hellobeautiful.com)
Halle Berry looked gorgeous in this nude crystal encrusted dress by Marchesa.  This corseted style dress was made in organza with silk tulle ruffles along the bottom.  Berry, who is an Oscar winner herself, was there to present a tribute to the late Lena Horne.

Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Haute Couture (Photo: StyleList)
Cate Blanchett had one of the most artistic looking dresses of the night.  She certainly turned heads in this Givenchy dress that had a circular cutout detail and was beaded along the shoulders, neckline and waist.  The long fluid pleated skirt was very Romanesque.  It actually looked very much like a period piece.  This dress was truly a work of art.  Either you loved it or hated it.  I give her kudos for being brave enough to wear a dress that isn't typical of modern evening gowns.  I do think she is likely to end up on some people's worst dressed lists.

Jennifer Hudson in Versace

Oscar-winning actress and singer, Jennifer Hudson, stepped out on the red carpet in the tangerine-red Versace gown.  She briefly reminisced with Ryan Seacrest her previous experiences at the Oscars. Most notable being her first nomination and win for her role in the movie Dreamgirls.  Her dress was very elegant and revealed the new body Hudson has been showing off since shedding weight as a spokesperson for Weight Watchers.  I do think the neckline was a little awkward on her, overall the dress was nice but she could have done better.

Helena Bonham Carter in Colleen Atwood
Helena Bonham Carter's ensemble was not one of my favorites.  It was a black corset and skirt combination.  To me she looked like goth glam.  She made sure to pay homage to her native land by sporting the British flag on her leg.  The Oscar nominated actress left empty handed but, I'm sure people will still be talking about her.

What are your thoughts?  After all, it is all a matter of opinion.
