Walking Coat Hangers

The fashion industry has been known to hire models as 'walking coat hangers' but Belgian design label, Martin Margiela, took it to the next level with the spring 2011 runway show at Paris Fashion week.  It was announced in late 2009 that Margiela himself is no longer head of the design process and a new young creative team have taken over the helms.

Known for creating work that goes against the grain in the fashion industry it's no surprise that the Margiela show had models strutting in clothing that looked like it was pressed flat as paper.  A trench coat that looked like a cardboard sign lay on a model as she carefully walked down the runway.  Some items looked like they were still on the hanger and the model's head was simply placed on top of the garment....hence the walking hanger.
